So I'm going to steer away from my typical blogging topic to share with you all that I have officially given up soda. At some point this weekend, I was slightly overwhelmed by 1) how much I was drinking per day and 2) how much I actually did not enjoy the experience. Weird, right? Drinking something that I actually didn't enjoy. Now, to make matters worse, I only would drink the diet stuff- so while it was calorie minimal, I was opening myself up to over 92 side effects that come from aspartame. Sheesh. And according to one article, drinking diet soda actually increases your cravings for sweets and junk food. And I had gotten to this point where my throat burned when I drank the stuff. And I'm a singer. So I stopped. I stopped because I think it might have an impact on my energy, my complexion, and my overall feeling about my physical well being.
Believe me, I'm not a health nut, but I think there is something to be said for wise intake. And thanks to my lovely friend Kristin, I've been thinking more about local food, supporting the local community. Not sure what that means in the long run for me yet- how I will go from thinking about it to practically implementing it in my life, but I'll get there.
For now, soda is out. I'm still allowing myself seltzer or all-naturally flavored sparkling water. And I have replaced the Diet stuff with juices, smoothies, water, unsweetened teas, and my most recent favorite, iced Dr. D's from Soma (it's a ginger tonic lemonade type thing-amazing).
But don't worry Coke, if it was a choice between you and your counter-part, I'd choose you all the way- even if your beverage could potentially lead to fun stuff like diabetes, blindness, acne, blood clots, and osteoporosis!
