1 Samuel 20:42-Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord, saying, 'The Lord is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.' "
I remember my father telling me when I was young that in our lifetime, we may be blessed with one or two close friends with whom we really connect. I am learning the value of such friendship as I walk through the reminding weeks of this semester.
What is a friend? She is beyond a person who laughs at the jokes you tell. She's a person who knows when the joke is stemming from an inner hurt. She is beyond a person who talks about boys. She's the person who tells you to slow it down when you talk too much. She's more than just a girl who knows when you have hormonal days. She warns you of your behavior when you do. She's more than just a person who sympathizes with your faith. She realizes it is the basis of your life. She's more than just a person with whom you go to Starbucks. She's the person who is still there three hours later after you've seemingly exhausted every topic.
But most importantly...she fights with you. When you struggle...She's there to remind you that it is a struggle, yes, but you are strong enough in Christ to be "resilient" and persevere. Just like David and Jonathan were brothers in arms...they swore to friendship...she swears to be by your side, lifting you up in your walk and encouraging you to make decisions that honor Jesus. She is a woman of noble character, a gem, real.
These people are necessary in our lives. Who is yours?
