Tears of Yesterday
2 Peter 1:3-4- "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness throuhg our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us very great and precious promises so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires."
That last sentence struck me this morning. We are to escape the corruption. God has no desire for us to dwell in the sin. What does that look like? We know that Jesus spent time with the sinners. He reached down and saved the life of a prostitute, healed the eyes of a begger, and brought to life those dead in both spirit and in body. It is the sick who need the doctor. So why escape the corruption? For the same reason we wrestle with sin. We are called to be "in the world but not of it". And there is a thin line between "in" and "of", but the line is there and we must be wary of it. Yes, Jesus ministered to those who were in sin, as we should, but he came home to his group of fellowship. He had His group of 12.
What kind of corruption am I talking about? Anything that is "caused by evil desires." Sexual immorality, dishonesty, drunkenness, disobeying authority, idol worship. Anything you can think of that is contrary to the character of Christ falls under this list.
How do we escape? Well, look at that verse. He has given us GREAT and PRECIOUS promises SO THAT we can escape. So learn His promises of hope, truth, strength and peace. Fight these evil desires with His word. Commit a time to the Lord in the morning to start your day off in His life. That little bit of His truth is strong enough to fight of this destructive force behind the thoughts, desires, and feelings. Trust me.
So I guess this is two fold: dive into Christian fellowship so that you maybe surrounded by divine support through hard times of struggle and pick out a section of the Bible and spend time each morning RIGHT when you get up and just read a little bit. It will honestly change your life. And those tears of fear...will become tears of yesterday.
